After an amazing opening in Boston, MA for the ISF World Championship, Chaz Ortiz showed us why he is the one to beat in this year’s Dew Tour.  Chaz exploded onto the scene at 15 years old and took the skating community by storm, placing 2nd overall at his first Dew Tour appearance.

Back in Boston, Chaz received 3rd place honors, proving that this kid means business and is here to stay!  Verizon is super stoked to have Chaz on the team and we look forward to all the excitement he’ll bring to this year’s tour.

Look for Chaz at the second skate stop of the Dew Tour: The Wendy’s Invitational in Portland, OR August 12 - 15.  Come out and show your support for Chaz.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Lauderdale yesterday afternoon to play his first show of his summer long east coast tour.  With special guest performer Mishka, and some amazing sponsors including Samsung and Verizon, this tour promises to be the best summer fun had on the eastern coastline.

The Make It Count contest series started in January in Phoenix and was an 11 stop amateur contest.  The overall winner of the contest series received the amazing opportunity to be the newest addition of the Element Skateboard team!  For all of 2010, this competition has been ridiculous and the level of skating equally insane. 

 

The final stop of the tour took place at Element’s own YMCA skate camp in Northern California and the experience the kids received at camp was nothing short of magical.  Being able to skate in such a natural environment was amazing and the kids that participated will remember this skate camp forever.

Moscow was the site for the return of Verizon Wireless FMX rider Mat Rebeaud.  Mat suffered a severely fractured arm as well as a compressed lung during a training session at the Red Bull compound back in April 2010.  It has been a good chunk of time since Mat had been back on his bike but he was determined to make an impression his first time back.

 

Finishing in tenth place probably wasn’t ideal for Mat, a past grand champion of X-fighters; however there was a certain bit of honor in his first competition back from the injury.

 

We are stoked Mat is back on the track and can’t wait until he’s at 100% because the world of FMX is in for some great surprises!  See you then!

He cooks breakfast for his kids in the morning then takes them to school. After school, it’s straight to the beach for a surf session. We then head to Maui to check out his new restaurant “Donavon Frankenreiter’s Margarita House.” Next, we head to El Salvador for the Billabong Donavon Frankenreiter Surf Camp. To finish his “Firsthand,” he heads to Australia to meet up with pro surfer legend Mark “Occy” Occhilupo. Finally, Donavon heads to Byron Bay to play one of the largest music festivals, The Byron Bay Blues and Roots Festival.

The first stop will be from June 19-22 at the Huntington Beach pier with the second stop being June 23-28 at Lower Trestles in San Clemente, CA.
 
All prelims will be held in Huntington with finals for all adult and Longboard divisions being decided on June 23 and the remainder of the finals will continue until June 28.

The 2010 Pro-tec Pool party went off this past Saturday in Orange, CA!  The newly renovated Combi Bowl and the Vans skatepark at the Block was the site for some of the most insane pool riding we have seen...well since last year at the Pro-tec Pool Party!  The house was packed and the competition was steep with some of skateboardings most influential and iconic pool skaters all battling for the top spots. 
 
Verizon Wireless rider and all around pool master, Omar Hassan had an amazing day at the Combi and fought his way up the ranks all day.  Although the competition was heavy, Omar was able to walk away with a third place finish and a giant handful of cash!  Congrats to Omar and the rest of the riders who competed in this event.  And a huge thank you to Vans and Pro-tec for making this event a blast every year!
