One local – and very lucky - flag football team recently had the chance to learn skills from Arizona cornerback Patrick Peterson, who served as their coach for the day.

The Colts, a 7- and 8-year-old boys’ team in the Coast to Coast Flag Football League, won the amazing experience as the grand prize in Verizon Insider’s local “Vote to Text” contest, which awarded the day with Peterson to the team with the most votes.

The Colts snagged the win with 41,578 texted votes, earned in a mere seven days with the help of friends of family and friends getting the word out about the contest via Facebook, text and email.

The boys got the chance to practice their football skills with Peterson, who then coached their game during the league’s “Patrick Peterson Saturday” event held Saturday, Jan. 21 at Discovery Park in Gilbert.

Do you have a drawer full of old wireless phones? Through its exclusive HopeLine recycling program, Verizon Wireless helps keep no-longer-used cell phones and batteries out of landfills and turns them into support of local domestic violence agencies.

Thanks to HopeLine's recycling efforts, more than 200 tons of electronic waste and batteries have been kept out of landfills. And since the start of the program in October 2001, Verizon Wireless has distributed over 90,000 phones with more than 300 million minutes of service and awarded more than $7.9 million in cash grants to domestic violence agencies.

Every phone counts!
Donate your no-longer-used phone, accessory and or battery year-round at any Verizon Wireless Communication Store, click here for a store locator, or print out a pre-paid label for shipping by clicking here. Your donation helps the environment and victims of domestic abuse.
